Today we walked through the tented village where all the protesters are gathering for tomorrow's general election. Thousands are on the streets in order to disrupt the voting but the atmosphere is calm and even good natured. Motorways have been taken over and forced to close and people have erected tents etc on them! It could get nasty tomorrow if they send the army in, so we'll lie low and see what develops. A 24 hour alcohol ban has been introduced nationwide...

Happy lunar new year! Bangkok? This is my 5th visit here and Marion's second and it is without doubt the most amazing city. Stepped off the plane and straight into a furnace, having departed Heathrow in the pouring rain. Let's hope that's the last rain we see for a while. Checked into the Majestic Grande hotel and within minutes, we were immersed in the hotel pool just as happy hour was about to start. Very little sleep during the 11.5 hour flight, so our first cocktail should remedy that.
