I spent several days hanging out in Bangkok, taking the river boat over to China town where I checked out the market selling everything ever produced by man - and in a selection of colours. I also checked out the Chatuchak weekend market which claims to be the biggest weekend market on the planet - there are over 10,000 stalls... really crazy big. My head was spinning.
Eating lots of good food from stalls like Banana pancakes, coconut puddings, fruit shakes, fried bugs.
OK, I skipped the bugs, but they are always the most crowded carts with lots of Thai lining up.
Then I got on a train up to Ayuthaya, which has some cool ruins for a couple of days. Ayuthaya is actually bordered on all sides by rivers and I was lucky enough to be there for Loi Krathong - the festival of lights which happens once per year. People make boats from banana leaves and about the size of an adults hand. During the festival these small rafts are laid on lakes and rivers and decorated with flowers, incense and candles.
I've now moved on northward to Sukhothai where there are more ruins to explore...
