Well, there hasn't been much blogging as of late because I've been to Chiang Mai before. I've just been relaxing at the guesthouse talking to other travelers.
One crazy thing did happen while I was crusing the countryside around Sukhothai. I was riding and looking around, enjoying the scenery when ahead of me I suddenly noticed a slithering "S" shaped thing on the road. It was about 4 feet long folded, so must have been 6-8 feet stretched out. Could it be a snake. As it was too close, there was no opportunity for me to go around it. My unconcscious. instant reaction was to stand up on my motorbike - I'm not sure if to get a better view or to raise myself away from it as I would inevitably pass over it.
I a mere second, it was underneath the bike - I could feel it as I ran over it, and then behind me... yes, it was a snake. I looked back and it continued to slither on its way. Exremely freaky. I was indeed huge. I mentally made sure I didn't feel and pain on my legs in the form of a bite and continued on my way.
Another cool thing on that road was that I saw a sign at a dusty intersection that said "I am a deaf monk, find me if you wish..." with an arrow pointing. So I went that way and followed more signs at each intersection pointing me in more and more remote roads, until finally I was on a dirt trail going through the hills. A last sign in front of a shack said "You have found me. It wasn't easy! I cannot hear you but come inside if you wish!"
So, I did, and he saw me wandering around, so motioned me in. We sat down and conversed via some english as he could speak a little and read some lips, plus using a pen and paper to write down things when required. Anyhow, interesting guy. We talked a lot about how most people are in far too much of a hurry, running around, and not really living...
Anyhow, more from Pai as I continue northward.

Harry Well I realise this was posted many years ago, but on the off-chance that you read this, I'd be very curious to find out where specifically you came across this deaf monk - I've been looking for him. Thank you :)
