I'm now back in Yangon to set up for the last leg of my trip. The 16-hour bus ride didn't leave me feeling as bad as I thought it would. I did eat something bad just before boarding which left me feeling more queasy than I have for the entire trip. After a few hours I was OK, though. Someone puked in the back of the bus into one of the provided plastic bags... but they are rather thin and the roads rather bumpy, so it soon broke, spilling barf all down the aisle of the bus. Very stinky. Fortunately, the bus also got a flat tire around that time... I say fortunately, because it also gave them a chance to clean up the aisle. Unfortunately, our bus didn't seem to have a spare tire and it was about 3am in the middle of nowhere... but fortunately another bus came rumbling down the road out of the darkness and gave us their spare.
Had a traditional Burmese massage yesterday before getting on the bus. It was about an hour for $5. Rather than rubbing, it was more a grabbing style... and then walking on you... afterwards they rub you in mentol mixed with coconut oil and tell you not to shower until the next day so all of the toxins can be drawn from your system.
I will now be heading down to Mawlamyine for a couple of days, then taking a boat trip up to Hpa-an where I will spent a few more days.
