I've been in the Inle Lake area for the past few days. It's a really interesting place. There are many villages that are partially on the water, with the houses on stilts and travel being done primarily by boat. The fisherman have a really unique way of rowing - the stand and use their foot and leg to push the oar, usually while balancing on the other and using their hands to manage the fishing net.
I took a boat out for the day with a couple of other guys and we traveled around the lake to different markets and villages, some on the lakeshore and other reached by traveling a few kilometers down narrow canals.
Another day I rented a bicycle and rode down one side of the lake. There is an expensive resort with bungalows on stilts off of the shore and I rode in to find it deserted. I parked the bike and walked the plank to one bungalow that had a great porch off the front with nice chairs to sit and look over the lake. I pulled out a nice lunch of some stuff I had in my pack and spent some time just relaxing, making myself at home!
I'll try to get some photo's up if I can find connection with some kind of speed.
