Well, Bagan is truly beautiful. I must say I was a little turned off in my first half hour of touring around as I went to one of the big temples and there where shacks of vendors lining the front and then the hallway leading in. Because of this, you couldn't even get a great photo. I went off to a second big temple beside it and it was the same thing... so right there I decided I needed a different plan. I took off on a dirt path with the bike, wandering the plains and checking out random temples where there was no one except for me. That was great! I could even climb some and get great shots of the big temples from there.
But really, the insides of the temples are the same a everywhere else in Myanmar, so it's the big, macro view of Bagan which is interesting. One of the most beautiful views I have seen in my life was from atop one temple in the late day sun looking out over the plain of hundreds of temples. Wish I could show photos, but the internet is just too slow. Later.
So, it's been 2 hotels and 4 bed bug free nights! Also, my flu is not slowing me at all and the toe slicing fungus seems contained, so things are holding well.
It really seems no one can travel a country like this unscathed. A woman from Holland I've been on the same path with was on the back of a motorbike the other day, going to the bus station when her driver ran into something. She flew off the bike and split her leg open. The driver was scared and didn't want her to go to the hospital, but she was bleeding, so she had to!
Anhow, she just told them she tripped on the sidewalk, got stitched up and all was well...
