Journal Entry written by Sophie
Hello everyone! Well, here we are in sunny Cape Town lapping up the sunshine and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. Hope you are all well and looking after yourselves :) Here is an update of what we have been doing the last few days;
Thursday 15th February
We arrived at the airport three hours early because the father was having a little panic that we wouldn't get there on time (bless him I think he was just traumatised I was leaving the country) , had a coffee and then after an emotional farewell (Tami would like to add she did not cry...) Tami and I were ready to begin the adventure of a lifetime.
Surpisingly Customs let us through quickly, think they were just glad to get rid of us, and then we boarded the plane for our 11 and a half hour flight. Tami and I did not manage to even come close to Jon's inflight movie record of 5, instead passed the time by sleeping and eating delicious plane food. Yes, being a vegetarian does have its advantages - we got our food first!
Today was great fun and I cannot wait for the next five months! Bring on the world because Tami and I are ready for it!
Friday 16th February
On arrival in Cape Town we rang Ashanti Lodge to arrange pick up and ended up being in the wrong place with another guy who was going there at the wrong time but luckily still managed to catch the bus! We were concerned that we would not arrive alive due to the crazy driving over here (it involves undertaking and stopping about 6ft over the red lights...) but we got there safe and well, eventually! We sat chilling out in the hammocks in the garden and eating melted chocolate then checked in at 1pm. We are sharing a room with an Irish couple, an Australian bar man and an English girl. They are all absolutely lovely and we get on really well with them all. We went to the supermarket, had showers, unpacked and then Tami, the culinary genius that she is cooked a gourmet meal. Food is mostly so unbelievably cheap - it's 7p for a kiwi, 14p for bread and about 1.40 for a restaurant meal! However tinned tomatoes are extortionate at 80p! Went to bed reasonably early because we were sooo tired, after playing tennis (mad?!). We have decided to be really healthy this holiday so lots of sport is on the agenda! Already sunburnt :( ooops but now keeping covered up. Slept like a log these past two days and feeling absolutely brilliant!
Miss you all, keep safe, lots of love xxx
