Sophie And Tami Were Here
Tuesday 5th June
Journal entry brought to you by Tami
Today Sophie and I walked to the Craters of the Moon, a highly active geothermic area just outside Taupo. We set off bright and early at about 10am. Which is early for us, don't shake your head mother.
We had to walk up a major hill to begin with, which was a pain, especially as I appear to have pulled a muscle in my groin (do NOT ask how, I don't even know). We amused ourselves by reminiscing about our time away, childhood memories, and then a very long and drawn out game of Celebrities, where if Sophie said: 'Hilary Duff', I would have to say someone beginning with D, because Duff begins with a D, for example, Dolly Parton. After a couple of hours we turned into the park, and paid our entrance money. There was a picnic bench just inside the entrance, and we sat down and had a snack before we began walking around. We learnt lots of interesting facts, for example, did you know that skin burns at 50 degrees C?
The place itself was pretty cool, great gushes of steam rising from the ground every so often, and parts of the ground we too hot to walk on even in shoes, so there were raised platforms around. The walk was meant to take about one hour from start to finish, but we had lunch at the top of the hill, so it took us a little longer. We then started talking to a woman in the kiosk, and it turns out she used to live in Abingdon! Small world indeed! We then began the walk back, stopping occaisionally to take pictures of the beautiful scenery, or once to play cards in this crazy little woodland area by the side of the road. It was a really nice walk back actually, the trees were gorgeous, and the grass here is so green, it's lush. If you want to see any of the photos from today, please click on the following link:

When we got back into Taupo, we went to the supermarket, and then to an internet cafe. When we walked back to the hostel, I read some of my latest book, another Jeffrey Archer, The Prodigal Daughter. While I was reading, someone walked into the room and put their bag down on Sophie's bed, which had all her stuff on it already. He can't have not noticed her things on there! They were everywhere! She moved his stuff on the floor, and then, worried that she would come back from the pub and find a man in her bed, went round the hostel until she found people from room 11 and explained that it was her bed and could they not sleep in it please? Was so funny! We then went to Mulligan's for a bit, there was a pub quiz on. I didn't stay very long, came back at about 11 ish, I wasn't feeling too good, had another headache. Matt rang and it was amaaaaaazing to talk to him. Matt honey I know you read this, and I just want to announce that I love you and miss you SO much. When I went to sleep I had a really strange dream. I was in a shopping mall with Sophie, Matt, Jon and Kerry B who I used to work with. We were all just shopping, and then a really loud banging started, and these giant tin soldiers began to attack us, and were breaking down the mall to get to us. It was horrible. Then I woke up when Amos and Oli came in a bit later, which I'm quite grateful about as it got me out of the crazy dream.- comments
