Sophie And Tami Were Here
Monday 14th May
Journal entry brought to you by Tami (shattered)
We were all suitably exhausted this morning, as would be expected from the fact that we got up less than 2 hours after going to sleep. It wasn't helped by the fact that we had all seriously got a case of the giggles while lying in bed, and this went on for a prolonged length of time, just because as soon as there was silence, Steve would find this hilarious, and then the infectious peals of laughter would begin again. Hehe.
We boarded the ferry that was going to take us to the South Island, and learnt that some of the rubbish people from our first bus would now be on Jimmy's bus - we were not best pleased. However by this time, we'd formed some fairly strong bonds with the guys from the bus and didn't think it would be as much of an issue as it had been back then as there were a lot more people to distract us from the annoyances.
When we got on the ferry, most of us went to sleep. Mike and I had some very good hot chocolate, and then I too found a sofa and curled up for the three hour journey. Then we watched a man on TV break the world record for the largest number of cucumbers ever to be broken in one minute. It was thrilling.
We then touched down in the South Island, and Sophie believed a man when he firstly asked her for her passport, and secondly when he asked if she'd changed her North Island money into South Island money....durh.....
We then went to a free wine tasting, which neither Sophie nor I participated in, and then I had the best soup I've ever had in a cafe. It was Thai pumpkin, with cheese and bread, and it was just delicious. Yum.
When we got to our hostel for the evening in Nelson, Sophie and I tried to be in a room with Jamie and Brian, but by the time we'd got to the front of the queue there were only single beds left. This meant that for the first time since leaving England three months ago, Sophie and I were in separate rooms. It was actually really gutting, I didn't know any of the other four people in my room and felt quite alone.
Anyway, we got over it, and Sophie and I went for a walk with Jamie and Dan to the centremost point of New Zealand. The views were just gorgeous. You can see them by clicking on this link:

Then Jamie and Sophie and I went to the supermarket, and then had dinner. A bit later on everyone decided they were going to go out, but Sophie and I said we'd catch them a bit later as we needed to finish eating or something, I can't remember the reason now. Anyhoo, we set off a bit later, after being told that the place they'd gone to was unmissable, just round the corner. Forty five minutes later we eventually found it, and everyone else was shocked that we'd got lost. Did mean we got to see Nelson at night which was pretty cool, although, like most of the towns around New Zealand, there didn't seem to be much life at all. Sophie and I played lots of games of pool as the bar was largely a pool hall with some sofas, and after I had thrashed Sophie and Jamie, I decided to call it a night as I was pretty tired. Sophie followed suit, and like the good girls we are, we were all tucked up in bed by just after midnight. Check us out. Woot! Separate rooms though....sob sob....
