Sophie And Tami Were Here
Tuesday 29th May
Journal entry brought to you by Tami (missing Steve)
Woke up fairly early today to walk Steve to the shuttle bus so he could go to the airport. Sophie and Brian decided they couldn't be bothered to walk to Base where the pick up point was (about 20 mintues away), So Steve and I had a nice leisurely walk through Christchurch. Said goodbye. Was a bit rubbish. So the foursome becomes a threesome...hehe. I've really got used to there being four of us, we've spent pretty much the last week and a half with just us 4 together and it's now kind of weird to lose one of us. On a brighter note, Steve is a wicked guy and we'll no doubt see him at some point when we're back in England.
After seeing Steve safely off on the bus, I went on the internet for an hour until Sophie and Brian made it into town. We then were just walking along and we randomly bumped into Canadian James who we had been on the Kiwi bus with before. He joined the three of us for lunch in a vegetarian restaurant that Sophie so cleverly managed to find. Us two veggies went a little crazy and ordered lots and lots of food. Even the two carnivores managed to find something they liked!
After lunch we all went souvenier shopping for a couple of hours. There are about a billion souvenier shops in Christchurch, and they are all EXACTLY the same. Literally, there is nothing in any of them that you can't get in the other hundred on the same street. Anyhoo we bought some presents for people and ourselves, and then went on a long trek to try and locate some bookshops that Sophie had spotted the other day. After about an hour of walking around aimlessly, we eventually found them. It's probably a bad thing actually, as my rucksack is heavy enough as it is and it's now twice the volume and weight because I've bought about 10 more books......oop....
That evening the four of us decided to go to the cinema, so we walked down there at about 9 only to find that the only films showing later that night were Bobby (which is apparently not that great) and Pirates of the Carribbean 3 (which I'm forbidden from watching until I return to England, and Sophie hasn't seen the second one yet anyway). However the man behind the counter was really helpful and explained that there was another cinema down at the other end of town, about 30 minutes walk away, so we trekked down there and decided to watch The 300. Brian had seen it twice already but he said it was so good that he'd see it again. It was good, really dark, but beautifully made, and definately enjoyable to watch. We then walked back to the hostel, and to be fair, we probably bought icecream on the way back because we usually do when we're out :-P
