Wednesday 02nd MayJournal brought to you by SophieI cannot believe that it is May already - that is so scary!Today was our first day on the Kiwi Experience bus travelling up to the Bay of Islands in the very North of New Zealand. I will do my normal line up of what I thought about everyone.Christian - crazily he used to date someone that I went to school with! Before you ask Mother you will have absolutely no idea who it is so don't bother asking... Typical private school boy.Patrick - so annoying. 20 - looked about 5. Acted 5 too.Paul - really nice guy from Leeds. Very laid back.Annabel and Karen - two sweet girls from up North, reminded us of the two Katie's from Sydney. Lovely. There were some other people but we didn't really talk to them so I cannot comment. Our first stop was a crazy bee cafe which had a glass wall in it so you could see the bees making the honey. It was so cool. We had a guided tour of Pahia where we would be spending the next two days. Kiwi Experience is excellent. You meet so many people and it is extremely organised. It sorts out your accommdation and your activities. It is not like back packing at all! We checked into our hostel called Saltwater Lodge and then immediately dashed out to go sea kayaking. It was such a fun afternoon. Tami and I were terrible at first and my arms hurt so much. Jon, I do not know how you do rowing. I know you say it is all in your legs but I still could not do it. We kayaked over to this island and then stupidly Patrick said to me "Oh, I dare you to go in the sea. If you do I will." Clearly he does not know me well enough. I stripped off and dived into the sea. His face was absolutely hilarious. He did not know what to say. He then spent a good half an hour pussyfooting around whilst everyone was jeering at him. It was hilarious. We had some tea and then went over to another island to go to a lookout. After a good three hours we kayaked back and had a waterfight just before we got into shore. It was brilliant. I loved it. The weather was also fab. The sun was shining down and it was quite hot. I could even wear my shorts and t- shirt! YESSSS.When we were walking off to go back to the hostel I realised that I had left my life jacket on so ran back to give it in. Dan, one of the kayak guides then said "You keep it and I dare you to wear it into the bar tonight". So of course I did. After making dinner I trundled off to the pub in this stylish bright orange life jacket and because they were all amazed that I had done it I got 7 free drinks off the locals! I couldn't believe it. It was definitely worth it. I was trying to be healthy in New Zealand but it is rude to turn down a gift so I just had to drink! I spent the evening playing pool and losing badly to Dan. It was good fun though all the same. My aim is to improve my pool skills by the time I get back - I am certainly playing it enough! Great start to the Kiwi Experience. I am really looking forward to the next six weeks in New Zealand. :D
