Sophie And Tami Were Here
Sunday 29th April
Journal entry brought to you by (a very lazy) Tami
Greetings from New Zealand everyone! As my first official journal entry from New Zealand, I would also like to point out that Sophie and I have now passed by our half way point of our trip, and therefore it wont be that long before we are back on English soil to annoy the hell out of you all again. Although I miss you all, I must admit that it's rather sad to now be on the second half, this time has just gone so quickly. Anyhoo. It's not over yet. So...the 29th April....Our first full day in New Zealand.....
We spent this day very productively. We got up at 3pm. I know, I know, hardly a culturally enriching introduction to the country, but we were both really tired for some reason, maybe it was jetlag (I am fully aware that there is only a two hour time difference from Australia.)
When we eventually got up we met one of our room mates called Will, who it turns out is off to Sheffield next year (like Sophie) and is also staying in the same halls as Sophie. We all took a walk to the supermarket together (called 'Foodmart' - original (!)).
When we got back, we bumped into Mich, who asked us of our plans for the evening. As we had nothing whatsoever planned, we got invited along to his friend Dave's house to use the hot tub. We caught the bus there, and as soon as we had been introduced to Dave and his 8 month old daughter Chelsea, the two of them went off to the bottle shop to buy beer, and Sophie and I were there with this baby, who would not stop crying. At first I sang 'The Teddybears Picnic' and she stopped, but then she started again and just wouldn't stop. We were like 'What do we do?!!' Eventually they returned home, and Dave explained that she was just really tired, it wasn't that we were bad babysitters, or a premonition that we were going to be bad mothers....gulp.... Bless her though. When she wasn't crying she was really cute.
Sophie cooked us dinner which was pasta, sauce and cheese, and I cooked pudding which was cinammon porridge with honey, sultanas and banana (I know porridge is a breakfast food but there were oats in the free food box, so what are you going to do?!)
After dinner we washed up, and then got changed to go into the hot tub, which was indeed hot at 42 degrees! Woop! When Dave's wife Sandy came home, she joined us for a bit, then Sophie, Mich and I headed to the bus stop to make the last bus home, feeling very sleepy and relaxed from the spa.....ahhh!
When we got back, we went straight to bed, both really tired, although I have no idea why as we had been in bed for most of the day! Oh and I read another Archer book, called 'A Matter of Honour' - it was very good, I recommend it. Possibly my favourite Archer so far. I have also purchased 'Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less' as recommended by my parents, so I will let you know how it goes. I know you are all very interested in my reading habits :-P
