Hi everybody
Well think this will be our last blog, cant believe how fasts its gone, we've loved every bit of it but we're really ready to come home now.
So we left Paris and headed to Brugge to meet Joany and Pat and sleep in a nice warm, clean hotel (thanks Pat).
Brugge is really beautiful especially at night, you could spend a full day just taking pictures. Its quite funny sometimes in the main square because there are that many people walking around with cameras stuck to their faces, all bumping into each other and all their taking pics of is peoples houses.
So Joany and Pat arrived around 11:30pm on the Friday, we sat in the hotel bar and had a few drinks and a good catch up. The next morning after breakfast we set off for a walk round Brugge for some sight seeing. We did the usual touristy thing and visited the chocolate factory, on the way out there were some big glass doors towards the exit, Me, Pat and Joany started walking towards the exit the way the arrow was pointing, then Pab shouted "this way" we all thought he was kidding but he carried on walking straight into the glass doors. It was so funny even a couple behind us were dying trying to keep their laughter in.
Me and Pab had read in our travel book about a place called 'De Garre' that sold a type of thick sweet beer called 'De Garre' it took a while to find it as it was kind of down a back street but we got a table in there and its was great. The beer came in these really cool glasses, they were quite small and only half full which we thought was a bit strange but after our secong one we found out why you didn't get so much.... it was so strong we were all feeling a little merry, so we ordered one more traditional beer and a cherry beer which was gorgeous, we shared these then went on the search for some food. We found this little snack bar restaurant, Pab ordered meatballs and when they came they looked like cambells straight from the tin and me and joany ordered some curry sauce which came in a thimble kind of tub and was basically mayo and curry powder yum yum. We got talking to the waiter who took a shine to Joany, he called up his suposedly footballer brother and made Joany speak to him on the phone then invited her to go partying with him later, she had to say yes just so she could get out of the restaurant, we didn't go back of course.
We headed back to the hotel for a power nap because we had booked into a posh restaurant that night. The restaurant was really nice, it was a converted cathedral and it speacialised in seafood. We had all had our starters and were waiting for our main course, I had ordered wild rice and shell fish, which i thought was going to be similar to a Paella, how wrong i was. The waiter brought me a bib and a bucket with some little tool things in it then the meal came, it was a HUGE bowl of every type of shellfish with a bowl of wild rice on the side, i was gobsmacked, it looked like something for 10 people not one. When the waiters came to clear away they looked at the bowl then asked if everything was ok because it looked like i'd not even touched it.
The next morning we got up and went for a boat ride on the canals round Brugge which was lovely, then we all piled in the van and headed to Antwerp. We had a little walk round thn we found an Irish bar where we had a few drinks, something to eat and watched the Liverpool v Chealsea game.
It was great seeing Joany and Pat, we had a brill time but they left early on the Sunday morning and me and Pab set of to Rotterdam.
We wanted to go back into the Netherlands because we'd met a few people on the way who said that theres so much more to see other than just Amsterdam.
Rotterdams nice, we did a bit of sightseeing then went for a walk along the docks towards the Euro mast, this is like a tall tower with a panoramic veiw of Rotterdam and on the top level there is this booth that you sit in which spins slowly as it takes you to the very top and tells you info about what you can see.
After Rotterdam we went back to Amsterdam so we could do the touristy thing instead of sitting in coffee shops all day haha. So we saw more of the city, we went to the hemp museum and the sex museum where Pab set an alarm of because he tried to fondel one of the manakins and we went to the house of Anne Frank which was really good.
After Amsterdam we headed towards Denmark which took a few days so we had a few stop offs in Germany. There are 3 islands in Denmark and to get to one of them (Zeeland) you have to cross this huge bridge which is roughly 6 miles long, we didn't realise at first but we had to pay 315 Danish Krones which is about 42 euro's there and 42 back. Zeeland is cool though, they have this huge club made entirely from ice which we really wanted to go to but it was 20euros each for entrance and one drink which we didn't have. We had read in the travel book about a place called The free town of Christiania this was a little town that had been formed by hippys inside some old army barracks and they basically made their own laws and got raided quite frequently but it was still there for us to go look round, they had little cafes and bars that were really cheap and some little stalls which i bought some really cool and really cheap hand made mittens from. It was a shame we didn't get any pics but there were signs everywhere saying no cameras and we didn't want to mess with the hippys and their pitbulls haha. It was absolutely freezing in Denmark and really expensive but we had a brill time. After Denmark we headed back through Germany just stopping off here and there on our way to Luxembourg. We stopped off in Eindhoven because we'd seen a poster advertising an Elbow gig with Laura Marling supporting. We'd been given an address from a woman at one of the campsites we'd stopped off at for a campsite in Eindhoven, we drove round for a while and couldn't see any sign of a campsite. We found an information centre who told us that we'd been given an address for a camping shop and there were no campsites in Eindhoven, but she gave us directions for a cheap hotel with free parking.
The Gig was quality they both sound amazing live. Half way through the Elbow set the lead singer did a QnA with the crowd which was funny, one woman stuck her hand up and asked if she could have a hug, so the lead singer came down, gave her a hug and got back on stage, then Pab stuck his hand up and said 'can i have a hug' evryone was laughing but he came down and gave Pab one haha.
The next morning we left the hotel and set off again towards Luxembourg. The campsite we stayed at ran a minibus to Luxembourg City which was free for campers which was cool, so we had a walk round the city then left the next morning back towards Belgium.
We'll just be going back on our selves now and basically waiting to travel to Calais for our Euro Tunnel.
Pab is buying some fags so get your orders in now ;)
Cant wait to see you all x
