When we got up in the morning in Ballarat we thought we were going to Melbourne. But as we rang the caravan parks in Melbourne we had to change our plans because they were fully booked over the weekend. They could fit us in on the monday so we had 3 night that we had to spend somewhere else.
We decided to go to The Mornington Peninsula and booked into a caravan park in Frankston after calling a number of parks that were also fully booked. At the time we were a little dissappointed about not finding a caravan park closer to the beach but in the end it worked out really well and it was a very nice park.
In the afternoon when we got there we just relaxed and went for a swim in the heated pool. I love these heated pools, no pain getting into them and no getting cold after just five minutes. Only problem is, it feels so cold getting out! In the evening we went to the large shopping centre for dinner. I also did some shopping for new tops as my old ones are getting a bit worn (full of holes). We also did some fun, fun, fun, food shopping before going home.
The next day we drove down the coast with the idea that we would drive through some cozy little beach towns. We were very wrong! The towns along the coast are really big and there really is no space inbetween them, they have all just grown together into a continuous sea of houses. It was still a very nice area but not what we were expecting.
We spent the afternoon swimming at the beach, having dinner and eating icecream.
On our last full day we drove a little north to the Dandenongs and took a ride on the Puffing Billy steam train from Belgrave to Lakeside. At Lakeside we stopped for a few hours, had lunch and played at the playground. They also had a free orchestra concert going on which the kids danced to. Max and Elise really enjoyed the day. On the way home Max said "This has been a wonderful day".
After checking out from the caravan park we drove into Frankston and went to see the sand sculptures which had a Disney theme. They were fantastic. Max and Elise looked at Lightning McQueen and Mater and then they were not so interested anymore. There was a big sandpit with buckets, shovels and trucks so we took turns sitting there with the kids and having a look at the sculptures. They also had a lego corner where we spent some time and then we did a sand picture of a train. Great morning for the kids and for us. Always great to see them having fun.
