Sunshine at last! Perfect day to visit Port Arthur. Quite a nice drive but the typical Aussie 'dead' looking landscape - even the housing is drab. Was getting a little cloudy and a cold wind when we arrived. Had a quick intro talk about the settlement and mini cruise before walking around the ruins.
Very interesting about how 'pleasant' the place was (comparatively speaking) to industrial England and how well many of the tranportees did out of it. Guess Port Arthur was somewhat sought after by convicts.
On return a visit to Fish Frenzy on the Hobart waterfront for the supposedly "best" fish and chips in Australia.....bit dissapointing really. Then decided to go up Mt. Wellington for a scenic view of Hobart and surrounds. Remeber how it was snowing the other day? Well plenty of eveidence of it and the most cutting cold wind I think we've every felt! Too cold to pee even! Got to see some wallabies in their native habitat and a close up encounter with a possum before getting back to the motel to defrost.
