Headed south of Hobart with three sites to visit. Firstly almost as far south as you can go to Ida Bay and to a little "railway" that runs from the village 7 kms down to Deep Hole, a bay where limestone was shipped out from. Train driver Mike was from Nelson and thought (mistakenly) that Ian was the technical one who'd understand what he was on about! Still very interesting but bloody wet and freezing cold - it's been snowing down to 600m.
Sun was out briefly when we got back to the station so had a chance to defrost a bit before heading north a little to Hastings for a visit to the Newdegate Cave. Discovered by accident in 1913 it's quite a large system in dolomite limestone. Met a large-ish cave spider - even Sally got close to it! At least it was mostly dry and out of the cold wind.
Had intended to go further northeast to the Tahune forest elevated walk, but it was pouring down again so we just went for the drive to the walk entrance then headed back to Hobart in time for dinner and the rugby.
Go the All Blacks!
