Day 16 Exmouth to Monkey Mia Another quick foray into the Cape Range National Park to Shothole Canyon...impressive. Then to Coral Bay...just a beach but very nice with great access to the Ningaloo Reef. Re-crossed tha Tropic of Capricorn and on to the blowholes at Quobba past Lake McKleod (waterless). Day 15 Karratha to Exmouth Karratha Big 4 was very overpriced. Bit of a boom town - growing fast with all the workers from the nearby mines & gas fields. Quick visit to Dampier - another mining town & pretty depressing. Supports the off-shore gas fields, ire ore and salt mining.Very 'worked-over' country side. Seeing water in the river channels now. Day 14 Broome to Karratha More dried-up country. Into the Pilbara....Iron ore country. Made a brief stop at Port Headland, the "rust spot" of the South Pacific!What a awful place...all rusty brown and covered in ire ore dust and salt from the nearby Dampier saltworks.Saw a massive ire ore train...must've been a least 1km long.

Day 13 Broome Brunch at the cafe and updated the web. Went for a self-drive tour around the town. All about pearls here...centre of the cultured pearl industry. Nice place but not much to see or in the shops.Lazy afternoon by the pool and a great steak & prawn dinner. Got up to date with the washing.

Day 12 Broome Short 2 hour drive from Derby and arrived at the Indian Ocean...with a sea breeze too...not that it's much cooler. Found another nice motel/resort at Cable Beach. Staying for a couple of days to recharge and recover. Off on safari...Camel Safari that is! 1m hour sunset journey along the beach.
