So today is the Korean Hoilday called Chuseok. Its similar to that of an American or Canadian Thanksgiving. The holiday is based off the lunar calendar so the dates changes every year but its a huge traveling holiday. Apparently around 12 million Koreans travel around the country the weekend of Chuseok. Thats not including all the waygooks (Korean for forgiener) traveling because they got a long weekend to travel. All those people moving in such a small country equals very crowded roads and busy intersections. Let's such say I am glad we walked home the friday before instead of biking. We wouldn've been hot for sure.
So this holiday is a time for people to honor their ancestors. They get together and visit the father's hometown and go to family graves. The day of Chuseok it is tradition to wear the traditional Korean dress called Hanbok, which they also wear for weddings. Hanbok are so colorful and beautiful I almost wished I would've worn something like that instead of the white dress of our traditions. Almost.
Another apart of this holiday is the giving of gifts. All the teachers at school pitched in and got our boss a really nice gift. I have no idea what that gift is but I am sure it was really nice considering how much money was given. Now my kids at school were raving about how they always get money during Chuseok and every other holiday. We teachers were not so lucky. As you see from my picture we got a lovely case of Spam. Not just any type of Spam, its the special gift set especially for Chuseok. See over here Spam is great, even beyond great. Spam here isn't cheap, and I know its wasn't super cheap in the states but here its like $6 a can. And people LOVE it! Crazy right? Well now since we are lucky enough to be a couple we now have two cases of spam to eat. And 6 of thosse cans are a special "Green Tea" Spam. Who knows what that will taste like. lol Seth has already enjoyed two dinners of spam and eggs. It wasn't so bad with the spices I brought over, which I am so glad now that I brought that big container of Italian Seasoning. No way would I have survived without it.
Well thats all for now.
