So this past Sunday, before we went to church at 2:30, Seth and I went to a speed boat race at Peace Park here in Mokpo. It was fun to explore and look around the city a little more with Seth at my side. We didnt know when it started so we just planned on being at the waterfront around 12:00. We set off to walking towards the area in a different direction than we usually go. Its a good thing because we discovered a new part of the waterfront.
It was around noon we were getting hungry and decided to find a local place to eat. Well because we can't understand or even read the language here our eyes always focus on anything English. We found "Mary Grace, bistro and cafe". The sign was in english and even the logo "Life is too short for bad coffee" but nothing inside was. lol. There was an advertisment with a sandwich on it. We got two of them not knowing what was on it. As I studied the menu board more I realized that there was only one option for sandwiches, so surely it must be a good sandwich right? After we ordered we sat and played games on our phones. One thing that I have noticed quickly about Koreans is that they dont do anything nearly as fast as I am used to in America. It took about 25 minutes for us to get our food, and we were the only ones in the place. Well the wait was worth it. The sandwich was three pieces of bread and two layers of toppings. The first had a layer of lettuce, diced onions, pickled jalepenos (not spicy) and ham. The second layer had egg, bacon, tomato, and a dijon sauce, and a big slice of cheese. It was so good that I was only able to eat half of the sandwich. AND it came with seasoned potato wedges. It was a good meal.
Next was the speed boats! So we set off and we got to the pier that the race was suppose to take place at. We didn't see much except a few seados playing around and showing off. We got closer and then the seados went away (we didn't know at this point but the racing had ended a hour before we arrived). Then this awesome guy comes out like iron man but with water. He has a suit that pumps water out of his feet and hands so that he is projected into the air close to 50 ft sometimes. Not only can he just fly but he can do flips and go in and out of the water like a dolphin. It was pretty cool. While we were standing there looking at the tricks Seth and I met some interesting people. We met them separately because Seth wanted to stay in the shade. He met a guy from the Ukraine that was there working in a shiping yard building massive ships. The guy I met was from Germany, Mike, who was there for a month working with another shipping company, showing them how to use some cutting equipment they just got. He showed me pictures on his iphone of his 2 yr old son and wife and even some videos of Korea he had taken. Mike told me about some of the racers of the speed boat competition. Apparently this was an international competetion. There was a Hugarian racer that Mike was able to talk to, and also some from Spain and Japan. Mokpo is trying very hard to bring people here. There is an International rock climbing competetion at the end of October that Seth and I would love to see.
After all that fun we went to church and had a great time with our brethern here. I then bought a bike from someone who is leaving the country. I can now keep up with Seth on his mountain trail bike. Granted mine is more worn and not as althelic as Seth's "Specialized" bike, but I also only plan to bike around town on the roads. And mine is a lot prettier and cheaper. :)
Well that is all I've got to say tonight. Check out our album for more pictures from that day. Till our next adventure!
