Slept in until 8.00am, enjoying one of the last opportunities of our holidays to relax late in bed. We laughed to see it was raining outside which would make quad biking a bit interesting but as it is holidays, nothing is going to stop us!
Finishing breakfast we could see that the rain had gone and it was getting hot fast, so we wiped the quad bike down and set off to explore the island of Patmos from one end to the other.
Without going into great details, we found many gorgeous bays to swim in (we did in two of them), little villages and sweeping views across the island. Liz quickly declared that Patmos is her favourite Greek island although I think Crete gives it a pretty good run for the number one spot.
We stopped for afternoon tea at Vargia to have a Greek salad which was a very good one and as they did their own sweets we treated ourselves to an apple slice and a panacotta which we shared between us
Later in the afternoon we stumbled on a picturesque little village on a bay by the name of Grikos which we instantly fell in love with!
Suddenly our quad was showing no fuel despite showing half a tank not long before, just as we got nearly to the other end of the island! We quickly made our way back, hoping the bike would make it to the main town where the only two fuel outlets are. Amazingly we made it all the way - although I was expecting to be walking......
Back at the other end of the island we found the highest point with the inevitable scary twisty windy road that led inevitably to a small church stuck on the highest point. Below was another remote bay with a large sailing boat anchored off shore - another vision of beauty.
Returning to the hotel we cleaned up and went out to dinner at a restaurant we spotted that afternoon, the menu looked great! Sure enough, the meal was superb, everything we ordered was absolutely spot on. At the end of the meal the owner came out because she said she had heard we were Australian, she was American having married a Greek about 20 years before. It was about an hour before we managed to leave for home.....
Next surprise was that the lights on the bike didn't work - and we were 10 minutes out of town in the dark!!! So we drove back using our hazard lights to try and see where we were going as well as let other vehicles see us. Some young lads on a scooter stopped us to show us how to work the lights but between our two language problems they finally realised we didnt have any that worked... We finally made it to our hotel safely at 11.30pm!
