We are moving fast and today we are heading on to Napier where we found a job...but first, here's our two days in Taupo - short, but crammed with sightseeing!
Friday wasn't much, we did go to a Polynesian Spa before leaving Rotorua which was very nice; 7 hot pools between 37-42 degrees, with stunning views of the huge lake from everyone one - great value for money and very relaxing!
We headed off to Taupo afterwards without any lunch, so my stomach made noises about the same as Rosie does up a hill for most of the way! But we got into Taupo about 2pm and parked up at the lakefront for a cheeky Burger King!
We found the motel pretty easily after that, the Camellia Court motel isn't too bad - tiny room with a double bed which is simply ideal for travellers, cheap enough too - although the street itself looks a little suspect and dodgy!
We headed out to get some shopping and came back to make dinner, Jen made a brilliant bolognese and we ate this while watching a TV in our room ..and the The Dark Knight came on which was our night sewed up!
Yesterday was a little busier. With only having a day left in Taupo we had stuff to do and sights to see...so we drove off towards the Huka Falls only to realise the sat nav on the iPad directed us the wrong way again...
So we did eventually go the right way and stopped at a Volcanic Activity Centre on route, safe to say this was awful and was about as old as our car was; nothing more to add!
We then headed to Huka Falls itself which was a brilliant and beautiful site, not a huge waterfall like previous but so powerful and eye-catching; we even got more pictures from the 'lookout point' which was high up looking down and over to the waterfall; top draw!
After this, and to work up an appetite for lunch, we went to the 'Craters of the moon' attraction just over the road.
This was natural craters in the earth that were so hot in and around them that steam and smoke rose from the ground and just touching it could melt shoes and severely burn you - Jen thankfully didn't touch them when she was told not too...usually something she (and admittedly me!) don't usually adhere to!!
It's about a 45 minute walk around, then another 20 minutes up to lookout point - this was described as a steep walk on the park map and of course, it nearly killed me! But alas, like Jenny kept repeating while sweating and panting to the top, it was well worth it for the awe of the viewpoint you got.
After a leftover Bolognese-lunch we headed into town for a walk around; firstly finding me a cheap jumper to wear as I managed to leave all mine at the farm...
During the walk we came across a 4D cinema that I had seen on the internet but forgot about, so we booked tickets here and came back at 4pm for the show!
It is the worlds first 4D whitewater adventure cinema which went travelling through different activities such as rafting, canoeing, sky diving and jet boat riding - all on 4D on hydraulic platforms!
It was so different and cool, and pretty lifelike - you even got sprayed with water during the water riding parts, a nice afternoon cool down!
It didn't end there either; a round of mini golf at the lake front was next, a closely fought round but it was myself who came out on top with a 10 stroke victory which in itself was odd, as Jen usually always wins...
So after all this we headed to Camellia Court to get washed and changed before we went out, again, only this time it was for Jens favourite food!
Taco Taco was the name, Mexican the game! Flame grilled corn on the cobs for starters, accompanied by lime and coriander butter (wow), followed up by spicy chicken TacoTaco for Jen and sautéed prawn enchiladas for me - both were absolutely fantastic! Great meals and great prices too!
We caught the end of Harry Potter (and the Half Blood Prince) on TV when we got back before sleeping, a sleep well earned I say!
We are heading off to Napier in Hawkes Bay really soon, 2 hours drive. Staying here for a while I think, fruit licking (and some picking too ;D ) jobs everywhere and it's time to earn some money for this and any other journeys we may go on....
May the force be with you!
