G'day mates - may the 4th be with you!
It's been a while since we updated the blog, but in all honesty there hasn't been much to tell!
We're still in Christchurch, and we're still hunting for jobs when we can, although we aren't in any rush for employment although its getting a bit tedious sitting around all day!
Saying that, it's been quite hard to find jobs that we want since we left Napier and the Kiwi fruit picking. Nelson gave us nothing, although it was a lovely place, and Christchurch is, well, not so lovely!
For such a big city, Christchurch lacks atmosphere and attraction - the earthquake of 2010 damaged the city pretty bad and it doesn't look like it's yet recovered from the impact of it - so many streets have buildings laid into them with closed down shops due to damaged foundations and surrounding areas.
They have built a new shopping area called the 're:Start' mall, which is shops built out of layered cargo bins - but there's limited shops and not too many that are interesting enough to repeatedly visit (even though we have).
They do have buskers performing all down the outdoor mall, ranging from singing to tap dancing, all the way to some mullet sporting guy on a unicycle!
We only found out earlier this week, when we decided to go to the cinema, that there was a bigger shopping centre called the Palms, but even that isn't too impressive given we're backpackers, and not that rich! We went to see The Amazing Spiderman 2 though, and even Jen enjoyed it - so there's always positives!
We're hopefully going to find a job soon, or at least move on somewhere else - not sure what comes first. We might head down to Dunedin or Invercargill, but travel plans aren't as easy without a car - although its an expense we're glad we don't have to worry about anymore.
Not much else to say, Jens making meatballs later and I'm actually okay with it (for those who don't know, it is a big deal!).
We'll update next week sometime, hopefully with something more interesting!
Kia Ora!
