We decided to stay another night at Sandy Creek, as it is a nice quiet spot away from the crowds. So after a lazy morning we decided to explore more of Litchfield NP.
First stop was Walker Creek. A quiet spot that is designed for walk in campers. The kids explored the creek edge for a little bit checking out what fish they could find.
Next spot was The Cascades. After reading the usual crocodile warning signs - the presence of salt water crocs are monitored and removed if found and fresh water crocs are known in the area but will bite if disturbed, we took the easy 1.7km walk in to some lovely cascades with several places that you could swim. The water was a bit cool but crystal clear. After enjoying our swim we decided to head back to find a special spot that we heard about. There was meant to be a place in the river where there was a cold spring and a hot spring right next to it. We found the cold spring and as usual Joel and Caitlyn took the lead to find the hot spring. They found it pretty quick and as they continued to explore Caitlyn was just about to ask if she could swim in it- but instead she screamed (not something Caitlyn would ever do)(a real scream). She happened to step right next to a crocodile. Fortunately the croc headed straight for the water and Caitlyn jumped the opposite way. Joel had only just walked past it! Anyway as you can imagine Poor Caitlyn was in a bit of shock so as she came back to me Joel went off croc hunting. Although he found it in hiding in the water in the shadows we are pretty sure it was a freshie- don't think a saltie would of disappeared as quick.
Next stop was the extremely popular Wangi Falls. This is the place where all of the tour buses go. There were people everywhere and after four weeks of seeing hardly anyone it was a bit of a shock. So we had lunch and got ready for a swim. Unfortunately just as we were about to get in the water Caitlyn managed to take a huge chunk of skin off her big toe. She had a quick dip while Joel took Angie and Jacob out to the waterfall.
Next stop was Florence Falls. Another beautiful crystal clear waterfall. We all swam out the the waterfall and we could even manage to squeeze behind the falls but the strength of the falling water was very strong and made the water choppy with a big current. In the shallows we discovered some friendly fish (sooty grunters) who we're trying to nibble our toes.
