Well what an eventful and action packed last few days! My Perth to Broome tour is well under way, having reached the end of day 5, although the night's only just started! We are currently in Exmouth, enjoying the sunshine, beaches and wildlife. On day 1 we visited the Pinnacles desert, and did lots of driving. We stayed on a farm which was really cool. On day 2 we had a very early start and drove into Kalbarri national park and enjoyed a couple of really nice walks with spectacular views of the gorges. I tried absailing for the first time down a 25m (80 foot) rock face. My legs were like jelly as I went off the top of the cliff, but luckily you just look at the rock face, so you don't have to see the height. I actually really enjoyed it and did it twice. I think the initial fear makes the adrenalin rush greater when you achieve that sort of stuff. After a 5 hour drive we arrived at a place called Monkey Mia which is well known for it's resident dolphins which can be seen in the bay and will swim up close if you are standing in the water. Our accommodation was right on the beach, and after dinner that night we enjoyed an Aboriginal cultural experience with a local Aboriginal guy called 'Capes'. He took us to a clearing in the sand where he had started a fire and taught us all about traditional Aboriginal culture including about bush food, medicine, marriage, relations and country/ relationship with the land. We cooked a couple of freshly caught fish on the hot coals and I tried some. Capes also taught us how to play the digeridoo, but I have a long way to go! After a good nights sleep, day 3 commenced nice and early with dolphin feeding where the dolphins came up quite close while the guides fed them. We then visited a marine park where we had a tour with explanation of the local marine life. We then headed for Coral Bay, our stop for the night, after a bit of a party on the bus during the 5 hours on the road, aided by beers and good music. I saw an emu out of the bus window which was quite cool. The party continued into the night. The morning of day 4 was spent lazing on the stunning beach at Coral Bay and the afternoon doing a bit of snorkelling on a glass bottom boat tour on the Ningaloo reef. I saw a turtle for the first time ever and snorkelled along with it as it swam along. After a short drive up the coast to Exmouth, we got settled for the night followed by a good bbq, some scary stories, and good company. There is 8 of us in the group and we are getting on really well. When you are with people 24/7 you get to know them really quickly. It's like travelling with friends already. I've now just finished dinner after day 5 which has been a day of sunshine, snorkelling and fun. We went to a place called Turquoise Bay which was very aptly named. The colour of the water was stunning and I went snorkelling twice with a couple of friends and then a third time with Brendo, our tour guide where we spotted a black tipped reef shark, and loads of cool fish, including a puffer fish. After lunch we went for a really nice walk at Yardie Creek and saw some black footed rock wallabies. Tomorrow we are headed East inland for Karijini NP for the next couple of days. I'm having a fab time and living the dream J xx
