16th June-
Early start today as we are catching the ferry to Mykonos. The ferry is enormous. I was imaging something about a 10th of the size of this cruise ship I am on. We were at the port early so were able to get and get some seats. Waited close to an hour before the boat left the harbor then snuck upstairs into the good seats that you are meant to 5€ extra to have but once the ferry is moving the Stewarts don't really care where people sit. Enjoyed some sleep and reading time. Due to the weather it was a very rough journey and we were running slightly late. We were about 30 mins out from Mykonos when the captain received a call that the ferry was required to assist in the recuse of another ferry. So we had to turn around and escort the ferry back to another port adding nearly another 1.5 hours onto our journey. We finally arrived at Mykonos at nearly 330pm which was a lot later then we had originally thought. Got the hotel shuttle bus about 10 mins out of Mykonos town. Dropped of our bags and headed down to the beach... It is a really windy but sunny. The beach is covered with umbrella and sun beds and you have to buy a drink from the cafe to use them. Were to cheap for that so just put our towels down on this tiny patch of sand and layed for a bit and had qui k swim in the ocean before heading back up to the hotel pool. the water was cold again but looks nice.
Caught the local bus into the Mykonos town and did a walking tour. The buildings are so cute you have to pinch yourself that you are in real life and not on the set of a movie. The streets are like a maze... Built like that on purpose so that invading pirates got confused and lost. As we were walking the sun was starting to set. It was just magical seeing the low sunlight over the ocean with the cute white and blue building. Also got some great views of the old windmills that were used for grinding flours. It did feel a little magical watching the ocean crash into the sea walls with spray flying up while the sunset was peeping it's way between the old windmills...
We enjoyed a dinner on the ocean walls and then headed out to a local bar for a drink... They were free poring delicious cocktails and then Greece won there soccer game so everyone was in a good mood. Moved onto another place with the club upstairs and bar downstairs.lots of dancing both on the floor and bar later headed to the taxi. Was a good night.
