24th July-
Had an interesting sleep in the communists hotel. I think the mattress maybe original as you can feel the springs coming through.... They made up for it was a nice breakfast. Then on the bus as we headed towards nis, the second larger city in Serbia. Drove for a couple of hours before a quick break and then another hour till we reached Nis. Once there we walked up to the skull tower. This tower was built in 1809 and had the skulls of around 950 Serbian soliders implanted in it. It wasn't so much a tower and a few meter high wall that is surrounded by a church to protect it. Many of the skulls are missing, lost or removed over time. Then had to walk quickly back to the bus. It took slightly longer than we were thinking to get too and look around the tower. Quick stop to use the Mcdonalds bathroom and then in the bus and drive towards the boarder with Bulgaria. Crossed in Bulgaria and arrived in Sofia. Spent some time walking around in the afternoon looking at the main sites including the national parliament, st Sofia statue and the Alexander nefiski chruch. As I had visited in may it was a similar walking tour we did. Then on the bus for a short drive into a park for gypsies night. It was a dinner and dancing show. The food was tasty and the dancing was ok. We then had a go up dancing also. Headed back to the hotel around midnight.
