We have finally arrived in Canada and after being in darkness for nearly 24 hours with flights and time differences, we couldnt wait for the sun to come up this morning so we could get out and look around!
Our first impressions were that it seemed a great, friendly city and with a little advice from our hostel owner, really easy to navigate. We're staying in a lovely guesthouse in Downtown Vancouver. The owners have renovated an old city house themselves, and it's nice to be staying somewhere homely and with a bit of character.
So after a good, it couldnt be anything but good because it was free, breakfast, we were off out for the day. Of course, we headed straight in the direction of the water. Our walk followed the sea wall and past some amazing apartment blocks. Olof summed it up by saying "it's amazing to live by the water, but to have the mountains right opposite as well, what could be better!" We had a little nosey at the boats in the harbour as we contiuned towards the famous Stanley Park. Even on what can only be described as a dreary grey day, you can really appreciate the fantastic scenery in the city, and considering the this it was very good of us to resist the urge to go on a seaplane tour. We don't want to peak too early!
I was educated by Olof on totem poles, yes okay I had said "yeah lets go that way to see them" but not having a bloody clue what they were. Blonde moment!
Our walk took us through Stanley Park where we took in the view and warmed up the camera for the rest of our trip. Before we started making our way back, we decided a quick Starbucks was in order to keep us going. Instead of taking the same route back we zig zagged through the city towards the hostel. After five hours of walking, we deicded we'd done enough for our first day and it was time to plan where we would be laying our heads for the next few nights as tomorrow we will begin our road trip.
The joys of jetlag, I've made it to half past eight is it still too early to go to sleep?!
