Today was the start of our journey out to the Canadian Rockies, we had decided yesterday to ease ourselves into the driving gently with a little four our stint to start us off to Kamloops.
However, the first task of the day was to pick up the car. Sounds simple enough, but the car rental office was a twenty minute walk through the city in the pouring rain and carrying all our bags. The second task was to actually get the car, we had trouble with Hertz on our previous trip but I'd given them the benefit of the doubt and rented with them again. Never again! Firstly, they didn't have on record we'd prepaid for the rental and that amount of money leaving our back account is something we wouldn't have got wrong! Secondly, the credit card we left on file had to be in Olof's name. So, a small tantrum later and we were upgraded to the next model and got a satnav thrown in for free. Not bad for a mornings work!
We had to ask though, why is everyone in Canada very friendly except the staff at Hertz?!
Unfortunately, leaving Vancouver didn't mean leaving behind the rain, and I think the photographs show how bad the weather was. At times, I was expecting it to be a flat landscape, but then a mountain would appear through the fog. We decided on taking what the hostel owner called the 'boring' route but quickest route out. Although, we expect twe have a lot more to come, the scenery is far from boring.
We did a quick pit stop on the way as we spied a big supermarket, so we took the opportunity to stock up on some fresh food. I was talking away in the vegetable aisle when I was interrupted by a lady saying "I love your accent" and then Olof was asked if he was from Australia!
It was four o'clock by the time we arrived in Kamloops there is nothing much here, but it is a place to lay our heads. It looks like our accommodation here will be motels rather than hostels, but I'm not complaining about a king size bed and an ensuite.
Tomorrow, we'll be up early to continue our journey to Banff!
