Given the long days Barcelona is enjoying at the moment, we decided to sleep in a little and take our time getting ready. We spoke to our families briefly before setting out for some breakfast. We hadn't had eggs since our ritual breakfasts in London so we stopped in at Bar Lobo next door for a quick bite.
Our next stop was more shopping, determined to find even more boutiques than yesterday. We headed up and down the narrow lanes stopping at quite a few to browse their wares. The weather was quite warm so we returned to our hotel to put on some shorts and thongs (the feet variety) - just like back in Oz. More comfortable now, we headed back out on a mission to shop until we dropped. As we worked up a hunger, we decided to stop into a tapas bar. There wasn't any English menus so we just started pointing at stuff and eating it whilst sipping on large glasses of San Miguel beer and Sangria. It was quite nice but we got a rude shock when we asked for the bill, I almost fell of my bar stool - the bill was 50 euros!! We had only had 5 individual items, a small plate of chorizo, chicken wings and meat balls. We paid the bill (with a tip as that is the euro custom) and put this down to experience and the need to be ripped off at least once on a trip in a foreign country.
We continued shopping a bit more before coming back to the hotel and chilling out for a few hours. Although we are shopping a lot, we are being quite selective in what we buy. There is a lot of similar clothes to what we get back home and a lot of the clothes are quite expensive. But we are finding some things, it just takes a lot of looking - very tiring!
As hunger started to catch our attention, we decided to go somewhere local that had been recommended by some iPhone app and was relatively cheap (in light of our lavish lunch). Without going into the details, we should have seen the signs when the menu had half Spanish, half Pakistani dishes on it. We ordered some stuff but it was very disappointing. Probably worse than the first night's meal. 2 out of 3 dinners have been crap so far - we aren't having much luck. We're going to try to google the most popular Spanish dishes and find places that serve them. The light at the end of the tunnel though is that our next stop is Italy where we won't have to look far for a good if not great meal.
