Ahhh Santorini - there are no words that can describe it's beauty. There's something so calming about waking up in the morning on a cliff top overlooking the bluest ocean you've ever seen. The people here are so relaxed and pleasant, and it certainly isn't hard to understand why.
We slept in this morning with a plan to do nothing but relax for the day. After grabbing a chicken gyros from the best place in town again, we walked around the shops for a little while. We then went back to our gorgeous hotel room and did nothing but sip wine on our private balcony, watch the ocean, and read our books - so relaxing!
Later in the evening we decided to walk down the ancient steps to the old port which we could see from our balcony - 587 very long, very slippery, VERY covered in donkey poo steps! Now I'm sure the views were great, but being the very intelligent girl that I am I wore open shoes so spent most of the time looking down to avoid the grenades, and gripping brendan's hand so tightly after a few near-slips! I did also have a nearly fatal run-in with a stampede of donkeys, but Brendan (my hero) pushed me out of the way just in time! (true story and not a product of spending too much time on holidays reading romance novels! In fact I was quite annoyed at him initially until he pointed out he had saved my life).
Needless to say after the stairs experience, we chose to take the cable car back up to the top which we enjoyed some great views from.
We had a lovely dinner in a little place called Nikolas Taverna ('My Big Fat Greek Wedding' did not exaggerate how come the name Nick is!) where we shared some peppers stuffed with tomato and fetta, and then Brendan had the pastitsio while I had the stuffed cabbage rolls - delicious!
We made it back to our balcony just in time to enjoy the beautiful sunset and fit in some more reading before bed.
