Today we left Rome after our busy days of sightseeing. There is so much to see that we started with the main events but we could have spent another week looking at things. We left early for the airport, a 6:30am flight so we caught a taxi just after 4:15am and got to the airport around 4:45am. The flight was fine and we touched down in Athens around 9:45. We caught the train to the stop near out hotel and we were pleased to find that our hotel was really close. We checked in and walked back to a shop near the station for something to eat. We got two chicken gyros, some fries and two drinks for just under 8euros - bargain. We then went back to the hotel for a much needed sleep before heading out for dinner.
We walked to the next suburb which had heaps of shops, bars and restaurants. We picked one and had special fried eggplants, tatziki and pita bread and a huge mixed grill platter. As we walked back to our hotel, we looked to our left to see the ancient Acropolis standing tall on the hill lit up for all to see. We'll be checking out this ancient monument when we return to Athens. A short time later, we were back in the hotel, listening to the pumping beats from a local street music festival. Then we went to sleep excited by the fact that we'd be in Santorini in a matter of hours.
