Last call for naked sauna time . . .
I mustered energy from somewhere to be risen for a 6.30am run. There had been nicer mornings for picture taking, however, the camera had never been shoved down my bra for such an occasion.
So that is how the day began, snappy happy. The run started with Angela, where we ran down the main road til we met Lauren, we turned right and then when the right I believe to be the correct right from the first run, the right I did on a run alone, is in fact the wrong right, but I do not know the right right. Once I left the girlies I started taken pictures of the easy running route, which are just the basic dirt path with stones through farms. Its hard to describe the scenery around, its just incredible, I just love being away from everything, all technology and, sorry to say this, people! Although, people have been known here to call me for using my ipod all the time. The ipod addiction, it is a saviour. Without my ipod there are countless times I may never of succeeded in sleep on trains, or survived long journeys keeping my sanity. I've tried reducing down to one ear, but two ears is just so much better. One ear is limited to busy roads and needing to listen out for vehicles etc. My argument is, I need the music at the moment when I am running through this serenity, purely to enable me to run due to my lack of fitness levels.
A few pictures of cows and a rising sun later I return to the camp for the morning breakfast. I tell you, besides the ipod, if I didn't have chai and peanut butter to return to I may never return back here due to dying a god awful death of becoming lost forever in the farming fields of Iten being outran by children with no shoes.
At breakfast I announced 10mins to pack and ill be done. Instead I lay in bed chatting to angela, she must be so happy to be getting rid of my 'explosion of mess', her words not mine. So our usual banter of slagging of the whole camp continues, its great discussing people you don't know and making speculations, all in good jest.
An agreement of a second run with angela to the track and back was made, urgh, but have to make the most of my time here. Secretly I love it, but I really do forget how much I hate running when im crap at it. My darling Car called on me for naked sauna time, oh how I was so pleased by this news as previously it had been mentioned that there was to be no naked sauna time.
Car was not impressed by my decision to wearmy bikini bottoms, especially as we spent a long long time in there, geez, saunas are hot hot hot. The sauna is also something I hate but love, just like the peanut butter addiction I have going on, I blame its when my life becomes removed and simple, simple life, simple things, pleases my simple mind, although it kinda pleases kinda doesn't, its like a confused messed up simple.
The usual topics of b****ing, boys and sex are covered among other such topics. Always a winning conversational combination, especially the funny stories, they are the screamers. Rudely interrupted by angela(I joke I joke), I grab a cold shower and kicking and screaming with the ipod in one ear I head to the track and back with our version of the 'kenyan' style run, which maybe classed by Kenyans as a leisurely stroll.
Ankle work at 11.30, not majorly exciting but such important work. This took us up to our dinner time. So it was food, pack(taking longer than planned), followed by lying by the pool with Car and co for half an hour, a hi to Gav and then I departed after a few goodbyes.
So, in my eyes, I have successfully attended and passed my first university course, I believe it is safe to say. I am aware that many would disagree, but each to their own.
The whole airportness is always great fun, the long taxi ride, where you get to appreciate the last bit of the place you are leaving, the delayed plane, so plenty sitting around, the turbulence on the planes chucking me around, the lost and confusion at these foreign airports where It always amazes me that it all somehow comes together and works out.
The flight was roughly an hour fromEldoret, once landed at Nairobi, I took the first guy(wait for it) who walked up to me and got that taxi, arranged for a hotel pick up the next morning bright and early.
Driving back the sun was setting, absolutely stunning. Now I know I keep going on about the sky and the sun and the stars here, I cant help myself its just incredible. This sunset over Nairobi made the place look a millions times better, as I aint a fan of cities, especially during rush hour. Sitting in the back with my darken windows I felt myself keep drifting while the guy kept did a d tour through some rough areas to avoid the traffic.
Once at the hotel I sat uploading some pics on the net while reading emails, god I hate technology. I had a ridiculous amount, so filtering through trying to sort out the work emails. I had some avocado salad and sat singing to my music before returning back to the net. At some point I got to that sleeping point where if I didn't sleep that would be it. A little mosquito had other plans. I lay with the blanket up over my head but kept hearing a buzzing come right next to my head, there was nothing I could do about it. If I kept the light on it left me alone, as soon as the light was off, it zoomed in on the naked skin. So in the end, I slept til 5ish, only to awake with a huge bite on my right shoulder, the b*****, at least it weren't another one on me already scabby lip.xx
