Disguised as a flamingo eating vegan pizza. . .
Up, packed and out the rooms, down to breakfast for 6.30am. As soon as we ate breakfast, we piled into the car and headed to Lake Anuru. This is the flamingo place, a huge lake with normally a ridiculous amount of flamingos, like this is the place to go to see flamingos. However, my typical luck, as the seasons are all coming early with this global warming malarkey that is happening, the flamingos have decided to migrate somewhere else. We had lots of pink pelicans though. I made up for flamingo numbers wearing my disguise of my pink huddie, when I popped down to the lake to capture my unforgettable camera skills of a flamingo, Ian took a snap of me on one leg, I swear in this picture you cant even spot me, I just blend right in.
We drove around the lake, I was amazed at how many rhino we saw here with their babies, what is a baby rhino called? But that was great for me as all the other animals ive seen. We also went to the view point, which was nice to look out over the lake.
After we had done a full drive around the lake, we headed back to the hotel for our buffet.
Once we ate, we piled back into the car and started our long journey to the running camp in Iten. Urgh, I just couldn't get comfy, trying to lie down and sleep, sitting up watching the view, listening to ipods, chatting, oh it was a long journey, even if it was only three and a half hours or something. We did stop not far from our camp while our driver got his fruit shopping in, while we all sat in the car being attacked by the locals trying to see us passion fruit and goodness knows what else through our windows.
We did stop once more, a pee break, but also to look at a river and a bridge thing and I discovered these weird little red spider crab like things, urgh.
Once at the camp, we dumped our stuff, had a drink, then went for a run, maybe 4.30/5ishpm. So we did a group run of about 45-50mins, at this point I just thought, how the hell am I ever going to find my way around here, as it all looks the same. I definitely set off too fast and struggled at the end of the run, started off leading, and ended up at the back, typical. You can tell that you are at altitude, breathing is so heavy, and of course low fitness levels and lots of hills doesn't help the situation either. I was anti-social for this run and just popped my ipod on with two ears, as I knew to get through this run there was no way I could speak and I needed music. So the guys had to keep shouting directions with me being up front, a couple times I nearly lost them. Near the end of the run I did stop about two or three times for about 30seconds to catch my breath. The first time I stopped was when Gav came along and said just before the hill I was about to do, this is the last bit to camp but its all up hill like this so take it easy. Well, instantly, I was just like sod that, I ran up the bit of the hill I could see, and coz I didn't know how long or far or steep the hill was I just walked for a bit. If he hadn't of said that I maybe might of just kept going, as I live on for every up hill there is a down hill, although living on top of a mountain, this isn't quite true, I always start the run down and finish up hill here. Oh the joys of high altitude training.
Once back at the camp we got given a tour of the place, shown the gym, pool, chill out lounge, canteen, studio etc. so we had our tea, we had arrived on Pizza night. So I had to wait for my special vegan food, Car had to wait for her veggie food, so we had veg on bread with ugali followed by a surprise pizza, which was great. Although im trying to avoid white bread as im constipated enough without it, all this moving around, my body is just never in rhythm.
Chill out lounge where I joined a group of guys playing hearts, consisting of Chris, versali, two Stephans and Syphilis-I just don't know his name, but Chris taught me how to lose at hearts, so that was great, occasionally I was allowed to touch the cards and place them in the middle, but only when I started to lose interest, trying to keep me interested.
Bed time b****ing with angela, banana and a chai later and we were akip.xx
