Day 301, 1 May 2013, Manhattan, New York. Day two of the New York Pass week - sure to be a ripper! Headed out about 9 am for a stroll through Hell's Kitchen (or Clinton as the area is now known...) All the way down to the piers on the West side to visit the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum. That's the USS Intrepid Aircraft carrier to us regular folks. With a submarine (the USS Growler - visited), a British Airways Concorde - admired, the space shuttle USS Enterprise - gazed upon. Incredible exhibit and, note, aircraft carriers are big, huge, enormous. Wouldn't want to be running for the phone. Headed next door to the New York water taxi terminal after that and grabbed a yellow (water) cab a couple of stops down Manhattan island to Battery Park where we huffed and puffed and hoofed it to Dennis Connor's Mega Yacht marina at North Cove with barely a minute to spare to join the Shearwater for a stunning cruise out and around Lady Liberty (used our minute to take this photo). The Shearwater is an 82 ft Gatsby-esque schooner built in 1929 - felt incredibly decadent to be lazing about on deck with a glass of wine, the breeze in our hair and the sun blazing down - god bless the New York Pass for including experiences like this. Upon returning to the marina we were peckish and tried some pizza from one of the food trucks near the financial centre. Interesting. Not sure it was related in anyway to actual pizza as they does it in Italy - but there you have it. We spent the afternoon walking down Broadway, checking out shops and generally taking in the sheer scale of New York - Evening? Having seen the skyline by day at the Empire State Building, we headed up to 51st street and 5th Avenue to visit the Rockefeller Centre - in fact, the "Top of the Rock" observation deck on the 67th floor. We firmly believe anything looks better with the addition of twinkly lights and Manhattan is no exception - incredible to see the Empire State Building from this perspective having stood on the top just yesterday. Supposed to plan tomorrow's outings this evening. Can't see it happening... 11.30 pm already.
