So I spent some time in the pub on Wednesday night! It was an eventfull night by all accounts but we won't go into that right now. Thursday morning I went on the Excitor jetboat with Danielle, Amy and Michelle. What a great way to cure a hangover!!! We were on the boat whizzing around the Bay of Islands for around an hour and a half. The rest of the day was spent just chilling out and catching up on some sleep!!
Friday morning, the four of us went to visit the Waitangi Treaty grounds. This was my second visit so I just hung around while the girls spent some time in the museum part. Afterwards we caught the fast ferry over to Russell for some lunch then it was back to Paihia to wait for our ride to Auckland. Friday evening was spent chilling out in the hostel at Auckland. Danielle and I were in the same room as Amy and Michelle which was nice, then we wandered down to the bar and enjoyed a goodbye drink or two. Michelle is off to Fiji and Amy is staying a few extra days in Auckland but we will most likely bump into her at some point, probably in Taupo.
Saturday morning Danielle and I were up bright and early to jump aboard another Stray bus, ready to do the North Island circuit. Again it was another driver I knew, Morrie, so that was cool. We headed out of the city towards the Coromandel coast. I was quite excited as I would be visiting somewhere new for a change. Once we had got settled at Hahei Beach, we went to visit a winery and for $2 got to sample quite a few different wines and liquers then we went for a walk to Cathedral Cove (i think). After that it was time for a big group BBQ. Everyone had chipped in $5 and we had a massive feed. About 8.30pm, we jumped back on the bus and Morrie drove us to Hot Water Beach. We all wandered along the beach in the dark till we found a nice spot to dig a big hole which then filled with hot water and most of the group climbed in. Danille decided it was too cold and just had a paddle but I got in. I had to deal with Morrie chucking wet sand at me once in a while but it was nice to be sat out in a big puddle of hot water, gazing at the stars. We even saw a few shooting stars. Then it was time to head back and go to bed ready for our next adventure.
