We spent most of the morning in the car driving towards Dunedin. We arrived there around lunchtime and headed straight to the info centre. Mum wanted to see the blue penguins and there was a trip leaving at 2pm so we just about had time for a qucik lunch before jumping on a bus to visit the penguins. Andrew wasn't up for wildlife spotting so had stayed in town to do his own thing. The first stop on the penguin tour was a visit to an albatross colony but we didn't see any albatross. It was the wrong time of year apparently! We were then taken to the penguin beach which was privately owned farmland and the farmer had set up viewing hides and tunnels for visitors so that the penguins weren't disturbed. As we were heading into the tunnels we saw fur seals lying on the grass and some blue penguins who had stayed home instead of going to sea for the day! We had to wait a while before the yellow eyed penguins started emerging from the sea. After a day spent in the sea the penguins walk up the beach back to their nesting boxes. After watching the penguins for a while we were driven back to our hostel where we met up with Andrew then headed out for dinner.
