At last! The day is here to pick up our Campervan in Christchurch. I have spent many hours, days and weeks over the past 6 months or more, planning, replanning and finalising this trip. And here it comes, head on.
We left the motel early to get to hopefully get the van a little earlier. We had done all our grocery and provisions shopping the day before and our little hire car was bursting at the seams with luggage and all the shopping.
We drove into the rental place and went in. We were met by a brusque, unendearing person who told us to move the car as only campervans were allowed on their (huge) site. She said we could transfer all our stuff out on the road. She also insisted I had, in all probability, not really filled all our driver licensing detail on line before arrival! Big mistake lady! Anyway she eventually choked on her words, without any assistance from my hands around her throat! We were steered to a guy behind a desk who sighted our licences and tapped away before Miss Brusqueness called him away to 'see her out the back'. What the. Anyway he returns, only to pass us on to Bright Red Hair Lady who promptly asked to see our drivers licences! For the next 90 minutes or more we listened to BRHL prattle on about her life, with our subtle hints to get on with the job, passing right over her head!
Anyway off we drove through the most stunning lush landscape with glorious blue sky in stark contrast to the emerald green of the paddocks.Off the plains and then into the hills and lakes. We stopped at Lake Tekapo to see the Church of the Good Shepherd and the bronze sheepdog statue. What stunning scenery with the poplars and willows turning yellow/orange. The lake so blue all in stark contrast to the brown tussock grass everywhere.
On towards Twizel, our first stop, where our neighbours back in Australia, have very kindly let us park on the driveway of their holiday home in Twizel.

sand6000 Shocking behaviour from people servicing our tourist industry. These motohome rental people deserve to be "named and shamed".
