We had a relative easy drive from Cefalu to Agrigento today via Enna which is the centre of Sicily and also situated on top of a mountain. Unfortunately the weather was overcast with a lot of fog so visibility was limited. We stopped in Caltanissetta where we had a coffee (not too much to see there). Enna was a typical mountain town where it takes a while to get there and then a while to get out as you are constantly winding in and out of narrow cobblestone streets where it is hard enough for a single car and then someone is coming the other way...
Agrigento was another challenge - easy to find but then to find the accommodation... we were almost there and then with the one way streets we ended up on the other end of town going up and down streets where only people should go and I rounded corners that were not meant for cars. Lucky we took the extra insurance on the car - you are almost forced to do so in Sicily - so there is no excess for any damages as they fully expect the car back with scratches and scrapes - it already had a big ding from before us. Only problem is if it gets stolen (we are told quite likely in Catania - our last stop - it costs us Euro200).
The B&B we have here is actually lovely and literally right in the old town so impossible to park here - you have to park down the road and bring the bags up 2 floors...
We have just been to a wine bar for a drink before dinner - can't eat before 7pm - and went to a restaurant recommended by our landlady which was OK but not "authentic" as we had hoped.
Erika has come down with a cold - similar to what I had when I arrived - and it has been a bit rainy so we are hoping for a sunny day tomorrow to see the Valley of the Temples on our way towards Syracusa.
