What a journey! Not the most auspicious start to a holiday.
Started off from Noosa at 4am Sunday in the rain down to Brisbane then on to HOng Kong via Cairms. Lucky I had booked the transit hotel as I was exhausted and with a heavy cold as well so felt awful. Also decided to get a neck and shoulder massage at the airport which I deserately needed. Fortunately I was upgraded to business on the HK Paris leg of 12 hours starting at midnight so was able to get a good sleep lying flat. Arrived in Paris at 6.30am Monday - cloudy and 15 degrees - and into the hotel which wasnt ready till 2pm so lots of walking in between and feeling really dreadful. The pic is of all the thousands of little padlocks that people have left over the years chained onto the bridge fence (no doubts in hope of coming back).
Paris on a Monday it seems is almost like a ghost town - no traffic, no people at least in the morning, most things closed - I was wondering if it was a public holiday. I havent felt the magic here this time - maybe I needed longer but it is just full of tourists and with none of the charm that I remember. Everyone getting around now on bicycles with heaps of them for hire on almost every street - no helmets required and very little traffic to worry about so ideal mode of transport.
Have taken my antibiotics and panadol so off to sleep and hopefully a better Tuesday.
