It's a little like Paris but it is not France.
It's a little like Florence but it is not Italy.
Prague is that sort of place that you feel you would like to come back to like Paris and Florence. It is very lovely and lots to do, especially when the weather co-operates like it did today. Sun arrived late afternoon so it helped to finish the day really pleasantly.
I started off the day with a lovely breakfast in a cafe - coffee, yoghurt with fruit and muesli and I couldn't resist a slice of berry tart which was delicious. A stop at the market was next and then walked right to the other end of town wandering through all the Old Town lanes to take my boat trip. It was nice except for the noisy German lady guide who insisted of speaking at the top of her voice throughout the English commentary which was annoying.
Then I took the Hop On bus up to the Prague Castle - the biggest castle in the world - enormous grounds with it's own cathedral to rival Notre Dame as well as a Basilica, several museums, etc. etc. not to mention a number of cafes and restaurants as well.
I decided to have a late long lunch - never had a long lunch alone before but I did enjoy this one. I chose a really lovely restaurant amidst the grape vines planted by St Wenceslas on the hill in the castle grounds - see the pics - and those of you who know me well know that I can't resist duck so I had a local specialty of roast confit duck leg with red cabbage and some potato dumpling (which was a bit ordinary) but the duck and cabbage was wonderful washed down with an enormous glass of pinot noir. I was the only one in the restaurant as it was after 3pm but that was no problem.
After a brief stop at home I went out again as I wanted to take the funicular up to the top of Petrin Hill to see what was there. Only about a 20 minute walk from home to the funicular. There is a restaurant half way up and at the top is an observatory together some wonderful gardens full of perfumed roses - lovely place to be at the end of the day to just enjoy.
I walked home as it got dark and managed to leave the code for the door behind so was locked out of the building and my phone battery was flat. Lucky I didn't have to wait too long till a resident came along and saved me. I haven't seen my airbnb landlady since I arrived - she is a bit strange and I am not sure where she is as I seem to be home alone here in my attic room.
However I am off tomorrow to Berlin on the train - just over 4 hours.
