Decided to do the Prague Food Tour today. Started off in a cafe in the Old Town where had coffee and real apple strudel.
Our guide walked us through the Old town providing some history which was interesting and we stopped at a city gourmet butcher where we sampled special Czech ham from rare breed of pig - best ham I think I have ever tasted. We also sampled some open sandwiches - a local speciality - at a new gourmet deli. I have to say they were wonderful served on very thinly sliced sourdough bread topped with beetroot puree and goat cheese, horseradish cream and pickled herring and shredded celeriac and mayonnaise which was my favourite.
Another walk took us to an old belfry which has been converted into a restaurant on the 8th floor - I tried to take some pics but hard to do the space justice - it was just such a unique experience. We had sauercraut soup - sounds terrible but it was delicious and I will try it when I get home.
Another walk into the new town where we visited a beer brewery restaurant to sample some beer - I could have done without this stop.
Next stop was lunch at Cafe Louvre - a notable restaurant where we had beef with a creamy sauce - very nice but also rich. I swapped the dumplings for grilled veges which was a much better option.
Getting quite full by now so another walk took us to the chocolate cafe where we had local speciality of very thin wafer rolls filled with cream and then you dip them into a thick chocolate sauce.
Needless to say no dinner required tonight!
