Having seen Machu Picchu, we had more or less done everything big that we had planned in South America, and so needed to get down to Santiago for our flight to Sydney by the 9th of April. We left Cuzco on the evening of the 2nd, and arrived in Arequipa the next morning, very early (it was still dark). Arequipa is the launch-off city for Colca Canyon, like the Grand Canyon but also with condors or something, so it seemed like a good idea to go on a 1 or 2 day tour to do that. However, Peter's bank balance said otherwise. Whilst trying to withdraw $50 US 'emergency money', we found ourselves without sufficient funds. After several emergency emails and a phone call, payed for with our last $5 pesos or so (less than 1 pound), we were set to have money sent over by wire transfer hopefully by the next day. A 20 pound charge to get the money immediately was all it took, and by the next afternoon we had money for food and bus tickets and stuff! We stayed in Arequipa a total of 2 nights, saw 0 sights (although we tried to go to this monastary 1 time) and left t5he morning of the 5/4/07 for Tacna, on the border.
