Greetings!
I have now been hee for 1 week :D
I am getting used to the temperature and my skin is too. I think it initially freaked out at the amount of sunlight I was giving it. What have I done since my last blog.... We have been on a few treks around the island. One was to a viewpoint on top of a hill on the south end and the view was amazing. I did smack my head on a tree at the top though but other than that it was a great climb. Half way up the path disappears so you have to clamber between rocks and trees and hope you reach the top. It was really fun. I hear that the treks up in Chaing Mai are like that or about 6 hours solid so I can't wait. The second trek was yesterday where after a bit of delibiration we decided to mission it all the way to the North end, effectively walking the length of the whole island (almost). We got a great view of the neighbouring island Koh Nangyaun (or something to that effect) which is a private island with a 100 baht docking fee :S We were sitting looking at it for a bit when suddenly some brown sludge stuff came out of a pipe down below and went into to ocean. It was some sort of waste from the resort which is right on the view point. It made me want to cry as the ocean looked so peaceful and nice until then and there was this group of crabs just hanging out on a rock next to the pipe. It was kind of a reality check and made me hate humanity a little....
On a happier note though we also did a big beach clean up collecting trash from the road sides and the beach. There are tonnes of bins around bit people seem to think that rubbish has a habit of just magically disappearing. Correction: No people. Your trash jsut sits there, on the road sides or on the ocean floor for hundreds, possibly thousands of years until is breaks down and all the plastic chemicals are then leached into the soil.
I really am not trying to depress you all. Sorry.
Today we went snorkelling and saw a boat wreck that you wouldn't even think was there until you came towards it. We saw clown fish, sea urchins, parrot fish, clams etc.
There are also these magical people who occasionaly come into my rooms and clean it for me. I was told I have to clean my own room but twice now, I have returned after a days work to find my room is different. The first time I got given pillows when I had none before and yesterday my furniture got rearranged and I now have a blanket. I wonder if the cleaning fairies will do my laundry aswell....
