You know when you get something in your mind that sounds really good to eat and you can't stop thinking about it until you have it? Banana pancakes...we stumbled upon a local bakery yesterday and saw they served breakfast, on the menu banana pancakes...so naturally that's what I had to have for breakfast this morning...one word delicious! They also had banana bread, so I got a piece for the road...
We took an hour long bus ride into Limon where we stopped to get snacks (and some rum) for our travel day to Tortuguero. The only way to reach Tortuguero is by boat through the canals...it was about a 4 hour boat ride with amazing scenery. Besides way too many birds, we saw a sloth and some monkeys. We stopped at a bar along the river for lunch. The local family that owns it cooked us lunch: fried chicken, rice, beans (I've been here almost a week and I have still managed to avoid them), salad, and the most amazing carrots! For dessert some fresh pineapple...I think this was my favorite meal yet!
Back on the boat we completed our journey to Tortuguero. Randy gave us a quick tour of the town there are no roads just walking paths. The main industry here is fishing and tourism. It is also the nesting site for leatherback turtles unfortunately it's the not the right time of year. When we reached our hotel they had a welcome cocktail for us...me and a couple of the girls went for a pre dinner swim, we are going to take advantage of happy hour at the hotel bar then dinner followed by some drinks in our room.
Another rainy day in the rainforest...
