Hi all,
We´re now in Foz de Iguaçu and it´s so hot that it´s like standing in front of a hairdryer! We arrived on an overnight bus this morning which was an experience in itself. There must be some kind of law that the buses aren't allowed interior lights on after dark (6pm ish) which we didn´t realise so we ended up sitting in the dark til a reasonable time to go to sleep.
Foz do Iguaçu is on the border with Paraguay and Argentina. We´re here because there are some amazing waterfalls on the Brazilian and Argentinian sides which are supposed to be incredible and something like twice as high as Niagra. We´re here for a few days and then will travel down to Buenos Aires for wine, steak and the gauchos.
Since the last message we´ve been to Sao Paulo which was loads nicer than Rio. Just generally cleaner and nicer, but not a touristy place at all so there wasn´t a lot to do. We went to our first ´per kilo´buffet, which is where you literally pay for the weight of food that you fill your plate with. Surprise, surprise, Nicky´s plate was huge and he still managed to finish off my leftovers too!
We´ve not managed to find a traditional Brazilian meat restaurant that we can afford yet, where they come round with unlimited amounts of bbq´d meat and you keep eating until you burst for a fixed price. But we´re hoping to find one soon.
We had a fab last day in Rio where we went up to the Christ statue (Corcovado) and went to a samba bar. The view was amazing from the Corcovado and it´s every bit as impressive up close as it looks on pictures. The samba bar was brilliant. Really chilled out, lots of cheap, yummy caipirinhas and the music was fab. If we have to go through Rio again, we´ll deffo go to another samba bar, nicky´s itching to strut his dancing with some Brazilian women! (Weirdly though, Brazilian women aren´t as nice looking as expected..I think Nicky is holding out hope for Buenos Aires!)
It was on the trip to the samba bar that we decided upon our roles for our travels. Nicky is in charge of safety and holds the purse strings (very tightly) and Im in charge of generally getting us places and reading the map. So far it´s working quite well.
Anyway, I´d better sign off soon before this gets too long. We hope you´re all well and send lots of love and fried food to you. (Fried food and sandwiches constitute at least 2 meals a day at the moment because they´re very cheap!)
Take care,
Clare & Nicky
