We are off on our big adventure
Hola!
We´ve had lots of adventures since our last message. It all started when we visited the Argentinian side of the Iguacu falls. It had been so hot the previous day that we went in shorts and t-shirts with just a waterproof jacket in case it rained. Six hours of tropical thunderstorm later, we were blue with cold and soaked to the skin, but seen the most amazing waterfalls. We went better prepared for similar weather when we visited the Brazilian side the next day and typically it was lovely and hot!
Both sides of the waterfalls are incredible in different ways. You get very up close and personal on the Argentinian side, but the panoramic view from the Brazilian side is amazing and like nothing we´ve ever seen before. We´re going to post some more pictures in a few days but they really don´t do it justice. (the link for our photo album is http://www.offexploring.com/nickyandclareontheirtravels )
There were also some sneaky little racoon-like animals called ´coatis´on the Brazilian side of the falls. You´ve never seen food snatchers like these critters and even Nicky was impressed! (Nicky is a serious food stealer.)
We then travelled by 18hr bus down to Buenos Aires where we´ve been staying very happily for 5 days now. It´s a totally amazing city; beautiful, loads to see and do, and the food and wine are fab. It doesn´t feel like South America here but more like Europe because of the colonial architecture and the modern feel of the city.
We watched a football match on our first night here, Racing Club vs. Boca Juniors. The stadium was in a very dodgy area and the game wasn´t great but the atmosphere was completely crazy and party-like. There were only about 20,000 fans there but they made the noise of about three times that number and the whole stadium shook with the vibrations.
We´ve done loads of sightseeing and gorged on steak and Mendozan red wine every day, a definite upgrade on our food in Brazil! The steak is so tender that you could eat it with a spoon.
We´re visiting an ´estancia´tomorrow, which is a ranch where Argentinian ´gauchos´(cowboys) herd cattle etc. We were going to go South for a few days at the beach but the weather is´due to cool on the Atlantic coast. So instead we´re heading to Mendoza on Wednesday (West Argentina, near the Andes and the border with Chile) where it´s 26·C and where there´s vineyards, so even more wine!
We hear the weather in the UK is getting chilly now (ha ha ha) but we hope all is well with you and look forward to hearing your news.
All our love
Clare & Nicky
