I flew to Sydney from Brisbane on Sunday 1st June and spent a day exploring Sydney by myself. It rained all afternoon so I ended up sitting in a cafe reading my book. The following morning I was due at the airport at 6am to pick Jo up so I got an early night.
Her flight was delayed a while the next morning so I spent a good 2 hours waiting for her. Eventually she made it through and we were reunited after 2 and a half months. It was great to see her. We took a cab to the youth hostel and dumbed our stuff there before heading out to Darling Harbour. She'd been travelling for days so it was my job to keep her awake for as long as possible. We explored Harbourside Shopping Centre and ate lunch by the harbour before going to the Sydney Aquarium. This was great, as you'd expect. It had also started to rain (again) so we then spent a while in a cafe relaxing. The weather had a horrible English feeling about it and it wasn't supposed to get any better. Anyway, it did not matter as Jo finally ran out or energy and fell asleep at 5pm until 10 the next morning.
Our first full day in Sydney and it was raining again. We decided to go to the Sydney Wildlife Park, right next door to the Aquarium, which is fairly new I think. We saw every sort of spider, snake, other reptiles etc that you could imagine. It was a very well organised place and we enjoyed it a lot. Jo also saw her first Wallaby and her first Koala - a big day for her!!! In the afternoon we took a boat to Circular Quay to see the opera house and the harbour bridge . We got drenched in the process and walked back down George Street (the main shopping street) before catching a bus back to the hostel. We dried off and then I took Jo to a great Japanese Noodle Bar I'd found in town for dinner.
The next day was still wet so we went to the Australian museum for a couple of hours. There was a brand new dinosaur exhibit which was excellent. I'm not normally a museum guy but this one was good. That afternoon we did shopping around the various shopping cetres in town and ate a meal near our hostel to avoid getting wet. We had booked a flight to Brisbane for the following morning. We really enjoyed our time in Sydney, it may have been raining but we were very sorry to be leaving. We have plans to come back here for a day or too at the end of our trip so hopefully the weather improves!!
