I've updated this blog because the computer broke on me last time - so if you find you're reading this again skip to the end paragraph - which is new.
The day we flew to Brisbane was pretty uneventful - we landed, checked into our hostel and explored Brisbane briefly. We found the main shopping street, Queens Street, and had a meal near our hostel and a few drinks.
The following day was busy. We got up early, with a headache and walked to the Botanical Gardens, situated right on the river. It was very beautiful and also very hot today, very different to Sydney. We then walked along the river and ended up at Southbank. This place is very cool. They have a man made beach with a great big lagoon/pool for you swim in right on the river edge. There are also a whole bunch of cool shops and cafes. After chilling out here for a while we took a ferry along the river to Eagle Street and had lunch in this trendy little area. We then walked back to Queen's Street for some shopping before walking to Roma Street Parkland - the world's largest sub-tropical garden. We walked around here for a while and Jo, who has a fear of spiders, managed to find hundreds of them to freak her out.
After all that we were really tired but I had decided to get into contact with Steve Jamison, my homestay mate, and ask if we could come visit. He, of course, said "yes you 'pommy b******' any time" - so we got onto a train at Roma heading south to Robina. We arrived at around 7pm and cooked Steve dinner before getting some sleep. It was great to be back at the house, I had missed them all in my week away and it was fun for Jo to meet everyone.
The following morning, Saturday 7th June, Steve took us to Burleigh Surf Club for breakfast ands after that, Jo and I went to Surfers Paradise for the day. We walked around the shops and spent some time on the beach. The next day we decided to go to Seaworld. We got a bus from the end of Steve's road right to the entrance and spent a great day seeing all sorts of sea life and animal shows. There was a dolphin show, which I will say is one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. They get the dolphins to do all sorts of jumps and twists together as a team and it is quite amazing to witness. There was also a sea lion show which was also fantastic. Another highlight was seeing the polar bears. They are beautiful creatures and are absoluty massive. The park also has rides and we went on the corkscrew rollercoaster, log flume and pirate ship. The whole day was a lot of fun.
Our final day on the Gold Coast took us to Currumbin National Park - full of Ozzy wildlife. The park is set in beautiful forests and we saw everything. This park is well known for being quite hands on - we were able to stroke and feed kangaroos and get up close to crocs etc. The other highlight was Jo being able to hold a koala and get some pictures to take home. Again, a brilliant day out. Next time I write will see the introduction of our campervan - Jackie Chan.
