We checked out early this morning and got a lift into Surfers to the transit centre. The guy that was giving us a lift didn't appear until 8am, we got to the transit centre just as our bus driver was getting ready to leave!! Cut it so fine, not like us at all.
When the coach was arriving into Coolangatta we got amazing views all the way back along the east coast line - culd really clearly see Surfers Paradise, it was such an amazing view all along the coast, really beautiful.
When we got to Byron Bay we got a free transfer to our hostel, Aquarius. After dumping our bags we went for a walk around and to the beach. It is a gorgeous beach and this is definitely the nicest town we have been to so far in Oz.
From the beach you could see Cape Byron - the most Easterly point of Australia's mainland. We wanted to up there and decided it was best to do it today. We walked the entire way and it was such a hike! In all it was only about 6KM but that is 6KM of almost vertical hills, steps, slops and all in the blistering heat!!
On the way up we got great views of the coast and the beach - we saw some other smallers beaches too. There were loads of surfers riding the waves.
It was such a challenging walk, you'd walk up miles of steep steps, get to the top and have to walk back down the other side and then go up again - so cruel!! But it was all worth it. When we got to the lighthouse we got amazing views, especially with the good weather.
On our way back down I saw a snake in the grass!! That made us move a little faster lol. We got eaten alive by mozzies too! Agh! We are both covered in bites, I even got one on my little finger - ouch!
We were both knackered and couldn't be bothered to cook so treated ourselves to a take away pizza which we took down and ate on the beach.
