I got up at 5.00 am and got a taxi to Beijing main station. The problem is that the road was losed so driver forced me to get out. I had to walk for aout 10-15 minutes with all my bags. This was extremely tiring because of the heat and humidity.
The station was very busy, with lots of people. I boarded the train and it left at 07,45. In my compartment there were three others. Franz from Germany, Marek from Poland and Takahashi from Japan.
The train crawled its way through the urban sprawl of Beijing, and then i had panic. I seemed to have lost my depature card for China. Luckily, I spoke to one of the guards and he gave me a new card.
It was very peaceful on the train and it gives you alot of time to think. At 11.03 we stopped at Zhangjiakou station. Then Datong at 13.51. I got out and stretched my legs at datong , it seemed like its the middle of nowhere but is population is 2.7 million.
At 15.oo Marek produced a bottle of chinese fiee water (56%) so we did some shots. The lanscape by now is very industrial with lots of factories.
Not sorry to be leaving Beijing, but already missing Saigon.
At about 19.00 we went to the resturant car and got some beers. Then we had to fill in a customs declaration. Du called me which was really nice.
We arrived at Erilan at 20.35 which is the chinese side of the border with Monglia. We got off the train and spent a few hoursdrinking some beers. Then we reboarderat about midnight and drunk a bit of vodka. Then we went through the Mongolian border. Not much sleep this night
